4th of July Fireworks 2026: Where to watch historic fireworks on America’s 250th birthday

4th of July Fireworks 2026 is not just a simple celebration this year, but a historic occasion, as the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary (Semiquincentennial). To mark the occasion, major cities across the country have made their fireworks shows bigger and more spectacular than ever before. If you’re wondering where to go for the best view on this historic night, this complete guide is for you. Below, we’ll take a look at five of the most famous places in America, from Washington, D.C. to Philadelphia, where the most memorable fireworks of the year are set to take place.

4th of July Fireworks 2026: The Biggest Show in Washington, DC

The biggest event of the year is taking place on the National Mall. According to organizers, about 850,000 fireworks will be launched into the air from ten different locations, including the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, West Potomac Park and eight barges moored in the Potomac River. The show is not only being considered the largest fireworks display in American history, but also has the potential to break the current world record, which is currently held by a church in the Philippines.

The show will begin at approximately 10:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) and will last 40 minutes β€” nearly double the length of a regular show. The best places to see it are the National Mall, the Capitol Grounds, and the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Virginia. Parking is limited, so using the Metro or rideshare is a good idea.

New York City: Macy’s Golden Anniversary Fireworks

New York is celebrating a double celebration this year β€” not only is America celebrating its 250th birthday, but the iconic Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks are also celebrating their 50th anniversary. Accordingly, the 2026 show will be presented from three different locations for the first time in history: the Brooklyn Bridge, the Lower Hudson River (in collaboration with Jersey City), and the Lower East River. The spectacular show will feature more than 85,000 fireworks displays, lighting up the sky in 30 different colors.

The broadcast will run from 8 to 10 p.m. on NBC and Peacock, with the actual fireworks display beginning at approximately 9:15 to 9:30 p.m., when it is completely dark. More than 40 international ships and fleets will also be on hand in New York Harbor as part of the Sail4th 250 program, adding to this year’s festivities. Hudson River Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park and the Williamsburg waterfront are great viewing spots.

San Francisco: Historic fireworks from the Golden Gate Bridge

San Francisco has made a rare decision this year β€” fireworks will be launched directly from the Golden Gate Bridge tower. This is only the third time in the bridge’s nearly 90-year history that the bridge has been used for a fireworks display. The show will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m., and the bridge will be completely closed to all traffic during the event.

Additional fireworks will also be released from barges near Pier 39. For the best views, Cressey Field (inside the Presidio), Marina Green and Fisherman’s Wharf are the best choices. Since parking lots will be closed in the morning, public transit is highly recommended.

Boston: Boston Pops’ spectacular musical fireworks show

The traditional Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular in Boston, birthplace of the American Revolution, is celebrating its 52nd anniversary, and this time it will be the biggest show ever. Nearly 4,500 fireworks explosions, far more than last year, will be launched from floating barges on the Charles River β€” and for the first time, they will be synchronized directly to live music by the Boston Pops Orchestra.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m., with fireworks expected to begin at approximately 9:15 p.m. This year, Grammy Award-winning artists Lainey Wilson, Chance the Rapper and Trombone Shorty will also perform. The Charles River Esplanade’s Oval Lawn and Cambridgeside are prime viewing spots, where more than a million people gather each year.

Philadelphia: Wawa Welcome America Festival concludes

The city where the Declaration of Independence was signed is wrapping up the 16-day Wawa Welcome America festival with the β€œOne Philadelphia Unity Concert for America.” The event will feature performances by big-name artists like Christina Aguilera, Jill Scott, The Roots and Will Smith, followed by a spectacular fireworks display over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Gates will open at 3 p.m., the concert will begin at 5 p.m., and fireworks are expected to start at approximately 11:45 p.m. Benjamin Franklin Parkway and Logan Circle are the best spots to view the spectacle.
